Graphites & Pencil Studies
A particular interest is exploring the potential of graphite as a medium in its own right to achieve gradation and tonal value. Graphite is a particularly relevant medium given its connection with the Lake District and its origins in the Borrowdale mines. Its varied tones of grey to black make it an excellent choice for drawing the buildings and natural stone and slate features of the area. However, it also lends itself to many other subjects, drawing white things with graphite is a particular challenge.
