Limn Studio, Lake District, Cumbria
Patrick Corbett, Local Artist
Limn Studio was set up by Patrick Corbett in the Lake District to enable him to share examples of his work and his appreciation of the art work and teachings of John Ruskin. He likes to work with aspiring artists and enjoys working alongside those with more experience, appreciating the opportunity to share ideas and the benefits which can arise from interaction.
The Ruskin Connection
The artwork produced at Limn Studio reflects Patrick's interest in John Ruskin’s work, and shows a dedication to recording personal observations in an accurate and consistent form. Work involves the use of graphite and watercolour, sometimes using both in combination to produce very interesting results.
Brantwood Art Courses & Workshops
Over the last 10 years Patrick has been running a series of successful workshops at Brantwood, John Ruskin's home in the Lake District during the latter part of his life. The workshops offer the opportunity to explore some basic art skills focusing on specific topics, with reference to Ruskin’s The Elements of Drawing.
Art Workshops at Furness Abbey
This is the third year that Patrick has been running day workshops at Furness Abbey. These focus on the 12th century red sandstone buildings of the Abbey set in the valley of the deadly nightshad and provides an opportunity to explore the historical architectural features in watercolour, graphite and pen and ink.
Patrick has a particular interest in exploring the potential of graphite
as a medium in its own right to achieve gradation and tonal value.
Watercolour studies are mainly representational, focusing
on transparent colour mixing and the results that can be achieved
by mixing on paper.
Patrick has developed a number of simple activities to help beginners design their own examples of lettering, using a full range of period styles.
